Omar Hakim and Chad Wackerman.Two guys that I think are really solid players.I like Sco's Still Warm cd and a friend of mine made me a Wackerman compilation cd that is very nice!

I have never heard what other drummers thought of these two guys.

Yeah, what's Omar doing at the moment? anybody know? He was one of the bussiest drummers in the 80's.

Omar is one of my all time hero's. Who else could have played D flat waltz from domino theory the way he did? Noone. And the drum/keyboard battles between him and zawinul were incredible to see and hear. He had/probably still has, blindingly fast singles around the kit. Also with weather report, and I forget the name of it, he used to play AND sing over a tricky 6/4 tune. Visually one of the best drummers to watch. Skill!

Molassas Run! Omar released a solo cd about a year or 2 ago and he's on a new release but at the moment the artist escapes me.
Chad is still around too, saw him at NAMM this year.

Omar's sick; Sco's Still Warm, WR's Domino Theory, & the Sting stuff, esp live, had some truly great drumming. He does inDEED groove like a mofro...
Chad, well, just check out anything he did w Zappa, Holdsworth, or his own solo discs - great player.

I Like Wackerman a lot (Big Zappa Fan). Not necessarily a great soloist but when you listen to all the Zappa stuff he's on boy can he play ANYTHING. Also he can read with the best of them. I also like his CD Scream quite a bit

Omar is on my list of favorites who are not named Vinnie, Dave, Virgil, etc. My two favorite records with Omar are Scofield's "Still Warm" and Sanborn's "As We Speak."

That snare drum intro to "Picks and Pans" on Sco's disc is tremendous. I love the snare sound on that one. On the Sanborn disc, he grooves like Gadd, but throws in a few Vinnie-inspired things to make it interesting. Awesome, tight, "studio" drum sound on that one....he had this China cymbal that I would guess is a 22" Avedis China Low...man, what a sound!

I dug his playing (and especially the sound of his toms) on "If You Love Somebody..." He was great on "Slo-Funk" on the "Burning for Buddy" disc, too.

The only time I was ever disappointed with Omar's playing was on the Buddy Rich Memorial tape. I was really expecting something over the top, but it just didn't swing.

I haven't heard enough of Chad's playing to comment, but I thought his clip on the Vic Firth site was pretty cool.

Still Warm and As We Speak are 2 favs of mine too,. Steve Houghton turned me on to the Sanborn disc back when it first came out.
